Do you feel stuck in areas of your life, unable to move forward? Are you seeking guidance as you try to balance meeting the needs of others with your own? Have you tried counseling in the past and didn't get the results you wanted? As a licensed professional counselor and psychotherapist in practice for over 30 years, Cheryl utilizes evidence-based therapeutic interventions to help her clients with the inevitable disappointments, losses, and ruptured relationships of life.
Her specialties include anxiety and panic disorders, depression, PTSD/trauma, relationship issues, and grief. Often, the issues people seek therapy for are rooted in unresolved childhood complex trauma, and as a certified EMDR practitioner and board certified clinical hypnotherapist, Cheryl understands the importance of changing the brain in order to heal trauma. She utilizes EMDR and hypnotherapy to create change rather than simply helping clients cope. With experience in several counseling approaches, Cheryl teaches her adult male and female clients therapy tools she has refined over the years and experienced in her own healing journey. She integrates mindfulness and breathing techniques into all of her therapeutic work to help clients manage distress and ease tension in the body. She believes the supportive connection created in a therapy relationship should be a collaborative one where clients can change negative beliefs and let go of unhealthy patterns/habits in order to experience more peace and joy in their lives.
Cheryl has a special interest in working with women newly diagnosed with breast cancer as well as young adults in their 20s setting out on their life's journey. In addition, Cheryl offers women's groups for those who wish to deepen their connections with other women. As a mother of an adopted adult child, she brings a unique perspective to parenting. In her spare time, Cheryl enjoys hiking, mountain biking, reading, and spending time with her golden doodle, Loki.
