Life brings with it many challenges! Some challenges come with excitement to push us forward while others leave us overwhelmed and feeling ill-equipped to handle. As a registered nurse and pastoral counselor, Sandi has spent the past 30 years working with individuals and small groups through times of loss, grief, unexpected events, and life’s transitions, equipping them to find strength and perspective through a Christian lens.
Her personal experiences have provided understanding, empathy, and the desire to share what God has taught her through the difficult times of life’s journeys. She knows the pain of divorce and the struggles of raising three children as a single parent; a child’s unplanned pregnancy; the loneliness of an empty nest as her children left home; the uncertainty when her job was terminated due to budget cuts. As her parents aged, she cared for her father while in hospice and supported her mother for her 10 years of widowhood. Although no one wants to go through the pain of loss and grief, Sandi found that her faith and dependency on God grew! She used her pain in leading Divorce Recovery seminars and small group ministries to single parents, caregivers, and cancer support groups.
Sandi returned to college for a degree in counseling and a master’s in leadership. In 1999, she made a move from Pittsburgh, PA, to Atlanta to accept a job as a Faith Community nurse and when that program closed, God “called her” to Rwanda to serve as a missionary. Five years ago, she was ordained a deacon in the Anglican Church of North America. She serves on the staff of Resurrection Anglican Church in Woodstock. All three children are married and she enjoys her 10 grandchildren! Sandi states, “There is a connection through our faith and health. I have counseled many who have unresolved issues that they have carried for years—things that have been buried into their hearts, ‘secrets’ that have weighed them down.
Relationships that have not reconciled keep them struggling with anger, bitterness, and lack of forgiveness. God is the great physician and He wants us to give Him our burdens. My calling and passion is to walk alongside those who are hurting to help them navigate and see God’s perspective and the hope of a new beginning when they trust in him.”
“I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
